1899 Bar and Grill

1899 Bar and Grill is a fancy restaurant on NAU campus where we can pay with our Dining Dollars. Paying with Dining Dollars has to be the best part about it besides that it is on campus. Sergio, Jazmine, Mary and I had a great time as we felt all rich and fancy with our dining dollars!

RA Appreciation Day/Snow Day

RA Appreciation day was Wednesday, February 20 so RHD Victor and GARHD KP surprised all the RA’s with a treat in staff meeting on Tuesday night. We all woke up Wednesday morning to be surprised with the campus closed down and classes cancelled for a SNOW DAY! The RA’s are convinced the day was cancelled just for the RA’s, but I don’t think that was quite the case. Either way, we really felt appreciated for all the hard work we do and enjoyed our day off!

Louie's Chicken Shack

RA Brandon convinced me that I had to try chicken and waffles! I never had chicken and waffles together before so I decided to try something new. Now I am mad (not really) at Brandon because I loved it. It was the perfect combination of breakfast and lunch and tastiness. I really enjoyed myself and must say that I will be visiting Louie's again for some chicken and waffles!
 Ready for this food adventure!
LOUIE (NAU Mascot)! Best chicken and waffles ever!
Yummy in my tummy!

Valentine's Week

Sechrist Hall RA's hosted a Valentine event every night (Monday-Thursday) for the week of Valentine. We all definitely had a fun time planning and hosting the programs. The programs ranged from sexual health to speed friending and the residents seemed to enjoy the events. I love hosting events for the residents. Also, I thought it was awesome that we had a program on Valentine's Day
so everyone could have something to do and somewhere to go without worrying about the stigmas of not having a date on Valentine's. I love having events like these and being there for the residents. Even though sometimes freshman make me wonder why I do this, I remember that they are the priority and we as RA's must help them along the way the same way my RA, Jasmine, did for me. Events like these reminds me of why I became a RA and why I am still a RA!

Hosted by RA Kenzie and Brandon....their program focused
on alcohol and sexual health. They roofied the residents (with skittles in their sodas)
and had a presentation at the end giving them some great information to avoid that!
Hosted by RA Colin, Danielle and Jessica...they played the roommate game.
This was a time for the residents to see how well they knew one another.
The winners got $10 in JDE (equivalent to Carolina Cash) and the winners
knew each other very well! I was very impressed!
Hosted by RA Mandy and Lauren...Hollywood Squares was this event.
The RA's took on the identity of stars such as Beyonce, Justin Bieber and Michelle Obama.
The information presented quizzed how well the participants knew sexual health facts.
Ready to play!
Hosted by RA Tyler and Ti'a...the final event of the week was a Social.
There was lots of sweets and treats for the residents. As they got their snacks we hosted
rounds of speed friending so they could meet others in Sechrist!
Some of the sweets and treats!

CARs with CARS 2

CARs are equivalent to what we call A-chats at USC. RHD Victor decided to have a party for us to put our CAR reports into the online system, Beacon, and watch CARS while doing so. Also, Victor made us pizookies which was the best part of the night! I never had a pizookie (pizza-cookie) before I came here and now I eat them way too much. Even though I did not get any CARs done because I was doing homework (don't tell Victor haha), I had a blast. I love spending time with my staff because we bond and become more and more like a little family every time!

Yes....we ate 3 pizookies! Victor just spoils us!

Message!

I just thought I would share the different post office box I have here at NAU! I love how they use the concept of letters with hidden numbers. Sometimes it is the little things that matter that you will never forget. I will not forget because it is the best thing in the world but because it is different and something I got to experience.

Gamecock at NAU?

Sechrist Residents really got the RA's with this famous prank! Someone got a free Rooster off of craigslist.com and set it lose in Sechrist. I heard guys running down the hall saying there was a Rooster so of course I had to go check it out. When I got downstairs, several RA's had the Rooster cornered trying to figure out what to do since it is not everyday we have a Rooster running around in the residence hall. We decided to call Northern Arizona University Police Department (NAUPD) because it was so late. I tried talking to Henry, the name we gave the rooster, being a gamecock and all but that did not work out very well! I have to say the prank was ridiculous but it was quite hilarious and it definitely made my night!

Valentine Social

Valentine's Day is one day out of the year all about love and having someone else there to pamper you (at least that is what society portrays and says it is all about). In order to ensure that my entire floor knew they were loved we had a Valentine Social. It was a great success and the ladies really seemed to enjoy themselves. I made them cupcakes and cookies which was a bit of a mess since I can't bake but it turned out to be a perfect and tasty mess! The ladies made Valentine Goodie Bags that we are going to hang outside our doors. During the week up until Valentine's Day, everyone will go around and put notes and/or candy in the bags to make sure everyone knows that someone cares and that even though they may not have a significant other they are still loved in so many other ways!

 The day has finally arrived!

Hotel Monte Vista

During our night in DTF, Mary and I decided to visit the historical Hotel Monte Vista. The hotel is well known around Flagstaff, because they host all the film stars that come through Northern Arizona when movies are being filmed. The Forrest Gump long run scene was shot here in Northern Arizona and the hotel hosted some of the stars from Forrest Gump. Also, this hotel is known to be the haunted hotel along Route 66. There are many stories about Hotel Monte Vista but one thing I can say for a fact is that it is beautiful inside and out. The hotel has a restaurant and allows others in and out so of course Mary and I went exploring a little!

 Getting closer...
 Almost there...
We have arrived...finally!
Receptionist Desk...we loved the old style mailboxes
 Sitting area....fancy!
We didn't go into the lounge but it looks inviting.
 Golden Elevator
 Awesome self created tour
 Until next time...Hotel Monte Vista!
(When we went in it was light now it's dark...we were exploring that long!?)

DTF (Downtown Flagstaff)

Mary and I decided to go downtown for dinner, dessert and to explore. We had a great day together as usual. For dinner, we went to Diablo Burger which is a local burger place in Flag. Everyone always has nothing but awesome things to say about Diablo Burger because they are a great place with great prices! They are 100% local down to the beef they sell and I really like that fact about them. Also, they sell their burgers on English muffins with their stamp in it! After Diablo Burger, we walked around to the train tracks and visited some local stores. Of course, we went to Earthbound, my new favorite store here. After some exploring, we found some sweet shops and ice cream shops. I have to say it was definitely a perfect day and very relaxing. Historic Downtown Flagstaff will definitely be missed when I leave, and what I love the most about it is the feeling it gives me like I am back in Charleston, SC!
