Angela Davis

This is something I never thought I would be able to experience. I got to hear Angela Davis speak and meet her. NAU has given me many experiences I will never forget. I hope that one day I can be an impact on society in the way in which Angela is. I loved hearing her speak on the varying topics and I hated when it was over. Meeting Angela Davis was an awesome day for me and one that I will always remember!

This is when I found out Angela Davis was coming to campus!

Damien Echols

Damien Echols came to speak at NAU and it was definitely an experience to remember. He is associated with the West Memphis Three. Damien was sentenced to death when he and two other guys were accused of killing three young boys in a sacrificial death. With new DNA evidence found, the three men were allowed to enter Alford Pleas and be released. Damien had severed 18 years on death row before he was released, losing his entire youth. After Damien and his wife Laura spoke, we heard information on the Arizona Innocence Project. This speaking was definitely an eye opener and showed me that our Criminal Justice System is not perfect. Damien's story is so moving but I thought, yes, his story is sad but what about the innocent people still on death row? I believe that the system will have errors because it is run by humans but one mistake can cost the life of a human so there are no excuses for mistakes! Damien Echols was a great speaker and this story will forever inspire me to work for the betterment of the Criminal Justice System of America.

A time to remember

Lava Tubes

The Criminal Justice Living Learning Community went to the Lava Tubes today and we had a blast! It is basically a huge cave that you hike through. It was tough at times but definitely worth it. I love the nature attractions here in Flagstaff!

Ready to get my hike on!

Medical Examiner

The Criminal Justice Living Learning Community went on a visit to the Medical Examiner's office. We had an amazing time as we got a tour through the building. Also, we got to see a skull, a body from 1936 that they have not found out who it is yet and she pulled out a body bag with a body in it from the cooler! The atmosphere was not what I expected at all. The lady that gave us our tour loved her job and told some awesome stories. She has so much respect for the families and the ones that had passed on. For example, one man's faith required music to be playing for his soul until he was buried and she actually allowed for a radio player to be placed with his body and whenever the battery died they would hurry and change it. Finally, the dogs were too cute! There are certain rooms they are not allowed in but when they were allowed to be in a room they put on a show for us. This tour showed me that even though an environment can be dark it is up to the people working there to make it a great work environment and that is exactly what she did.

42

Since Angela Davis was rescheduled, Marissa and I went to watch 42 and have dinner at Red Lobster. 42 was the best movie I have seen in a while and it definitely spoke to me. This movie was great inspiration to get me through the rest of the semester! I would recommend everyone to watch this if they get a chance, because I absolutely loved it! After 42, dinner at Red Lobster was amazing and I got my favorite dessert ever. I have to say this has been a pretty great Friday!

 Absolutely Amazing!
 A must see!
 Marissa has officially transferred!
The best dessert ever in life!
